๐ŸŽ“ Student vibe

Adventure-focused. Corsica attracts students who want something more challenging and wild. It's more expensive than mainland France and requires a ferry or flight, but the landscapes are unlike anything in Europe.

Getting there by train

From nice

5h by ferry to Bastia

Corsica Linea or La Mรฉridionale ferry โ€” book in advance

From marseille

7h by overnight ferry to Ajaccio

Overnight ferry โ€” budget option for students

Journey times are approximate. Always check current schedules on sncf-connect.com.

GR20 Trail (partial stages)

3 days to 2 weeks

Europe's most challenging long-distance trail โ€” 180 km crossing Corsica's central spine. Even 2โ€“3 stages are extraordinary.

๐Ÿ’ก Student tip

You don't need to do the full GR20. Stages 1โ€“4 in the north (Calenzana to Vizzavona) are classic. Book mountain refuge huts (gรฎtes d'รฉtape) several months in advance in summer.

Bonifacio

Half day to full day

A dramatic white citadel perched on limestone cliffs above turquoise straits, just 12 km from Sardinia.

๐Ÿ’ก Student tip

Bonifacio is touristy but jaw-dropping. Arrive by ferry from Porto-Vecchio or bus. Swim at the free public beach (Plage de Piantarella) rather than boat-trip spots.

Calanques de Piana

Half day to full day

Giant red granite boulders tumbling into a clear turquoise sea โ€” one of the most photographed landscapes in the western Mediterranean.

๐Ÿ’ก Student tip

Access requires a car or organised tour from Porto. A kayak hire lets you paddle among the boulders for a unique perspective. Sunrise light here is magical.

Bavella Pass & Needles

Full day

A dramatic mountain pass with enormous granite needles (aiguilles) โ€” popular for hiking, via ferrata, and pure wilderness.

๐Ÿ’ก Student tip

Day hike from the pass car park (Col de Bavella) up to the needles is spectacular and takes 3โ€“4 hours. Free. Bring water and sun protection.

Corte (University Town)

Full day or weekend

Corsica's only university city, in a dramatic mountain gorge โ€” home of Corsican culture, a fortress, and the gateway to the interior.

๐Ÿ’ก Student tip

Corte is the most affordable town in Corsica for accommodation. The gorges of the Restonica and Tavignanu valleys are stunning and free to hike.

๐ŸŽซ Student discounts in this region

Few student discounts specific to Corsica. Budget by staying in gรฎtes d'รฉtape and preparing your own food. Corsica Linea may have youth fares โ€” check corsicalinea.com.

๐Ÿš‚ Travel tip

Ferry from Nice (Corsica Linea) or Marseille (La Mรฉridionale) is the budget option. Book at least 2โ€“3 months ahead in summer. A rental car or scooter gives the most freedom once there.
